The Gary Yoshimura Scholarship
Deadline: Jan. 29, 2010 Award: $2,400 for continued study in public relations This scholarship was created in memory of Gary Yoshimura, who was a dedicated public relations leader. It is open to all PRSSA members who demonstrate a need for financial help pursuing higher education in public relations. It is awarded each year to the PRSSA member who best exemplifies the qualities of a true professional, a dedication to the learning process, and a strong determination and commitment to pursuing a career in public relations.
PRSA/PRSSA Internship Program
Deadline: March 29, 2010
Award: $2,000 stipend over the course of three months
PRSA offers a three-month internship. The student will apply what he or she has learned in the classroom to real-life public relations and business projects, working closely with the director of public relations and director of education. Intern projects include writing press releases, updating news clippings, updating media lists, assisting at events, assisting with the monthly e-newsletter, assisting the PRSSA department, expediting mailings, and updating the membership database. PRSA Multicultural Affairs Scholarship Program

Awards: $3,000 (Two $1,500 Scholarships)
In 1990, PRSA’s Multicultural Affairs Committee established a program to recognize academic achievement and public relations potential of minority undergraduate communications students. This scholarship is open to members and non-member minority undergraduate students — African-Americans, Asians/Pacific Islanders, Hispanics, Latinos or Native Americans — who have at least a junior status. In addition to other requirements, applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average. See the PRSSA Web site for details.
The Betsy Plank/PRSSA Scholarship Program

Awards: $4,250 (total)
The Champions for PRSSA established the Betsy Plank/PRSSA Scholarships in 1989. This program is open to all PRSSA members enrolled in a program of undergraduate public relations study who are in their junior year or beginning their senior year. The scholarship recognizes academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, practical experience and commitment to public relations. Three scholarships are awarded annually. Hall of Fame Award

The PRSSA Hall of Fame Award annually honors a PRSSA alumni who has built a distinguished career in public relations and who continues to contribute to public relations education through PRSSA involvement. Lawrence G. Foster Award for Excellence in Public Relations

Award: $1,500
To honor one of its most distinguished graduates, Lawrence Foster, The Pennsylvania State University’s College of Communications and the PRSSA Penn State Chapter established the Lawrence G. Foster Award for Excellence in Public Relations. To apply, students must write a 1,000–1,200-word essay describing what excellence in public relations is and how they plan to achieve excellence in their own careers. Applicants should address the ethical and work standards they’ll adopt as public relations professionals. Students also should list those leadership qualities they believe are most important in public relations and why. See the PRSSA Web site for details.
National Gold Key Award

The National Gold Key Award is the highest honor for PRSA members. It recognizes students who demonstrate excellence in public relations and PRSSA leadership. Each March, PRSSA Chapter’s are invited to nominate qualifying members. See the PRSSA Web site for details.
National President’s Citation

The National President’s Citation celebrates members who possess professional skills, a strong understanding of PRSSA and Chapter or National leadership experience. Chapters may nominate all qualifying members, but only two members per Chapter may receive the award. Awards are presented at the National Conference Awards Dinner. Stephen D. Pisinski Memorial Scholarship

The Stephen D. Pisinski Memorial Scholarship was established in 2002 and developed by Allison & Partners. Each fall, a scholarship is awarded to a PRSSA member who is a junior or senior with at least a 3.3 overall grade point average. See the PRSSA Web site for details.

MARKETING INTERN
Provide support to the Marketing department of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and gain experience in areas of promotion, publicity, and event planning. Manage distribution program to advertise concerts. Assist with press clippings, invoices, flyers and data entry. Attend weekly Marketing and PR meetings. Manage Borders Raffle drawings. Knowledge, skills, and experience required: Students pursuing a degree in English, Arts Management, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or Communications; strong written, verbal and organizational skills; knowledge of classical music a plus; and strong computer skills, MSOffice preferred. Must be available at least 15 hours per week.

The St. Louis Sports Commission offers an internship program–during the fall, spring, or summer academic semesters of a university student, either on a full-time or part-time basis. Occasionally post-graduate internships are available. (For information on Arch Rivalry marketing internships, click here.) A background in sports administration, sports marketing, sports management, communications, or journalism and a passion for sports are preferred. Hours of work are flexible and depend on the student’s schedule and the Sports Commission’s event calendar. The intern’s learning experience is acquired by working normal business hours of the Sports Commission and at events produced by the organization. Generally internships are not compensated; however, parking is paid.

Tell Me More
Hunter PR offers full-time paid internships to qualified candidates from late May - late August. The internship lasts approximately 7-10 weeks and start and stop dates are mutually agreed upon between the agency and the intern.
Hunter PR interns are fully functioning team members working on active agency projects for some of the biggest brands in the country. Interns report to an account executive or senior executive and are generally assigned 2-3 main client projects. Duties include drafting press releases, building media lists, brainstorming, researching, pitching media and planning event logistics. The ability to work in a fast paced environment and desire to learn are prerequisites for this job.
Qualified applicants should have:
