PR: Keeping the Image Alive

When we think about PR do we just think of a random assortment of people who go around trying to save companies from doing something that's not politically correct?  I hope not!  As PR professionals we must realize that PR has provided important services to many if not all institutions in almost every field from farming to healthcare and even to amusement parks.  Throughout the years PR has stood the test of time as invaluable and needed.  PR is not going to get less important and it is with that knowledge that I am proud to say I am in PR and PRSSA as I hope everyone can attest to.  PR is a field that not only helps people, it builds trust and solves problems that advertising and marketing cannot do alone.  With the turmoil of the economy PR will rise to a new importance; people don't trust companies anymore.  What we all must do now is to bring out the best in whatever we are assigned to do and not fall into the pit that is so common today; bad PR.

Bad PR is something that everyone in PRSSA and I would hope PRSA wants desperately to curtail; it makes us look like a bunch of swindlers and crooks.  We aren't spin doctors or greasy salespeople.  We are PR and we see solutions where others give up.  Help me fight the battle against bad PR and promise to bring things to light when others won't and to stand up for what we talk about every Wednesday in the Cambria Room; even if you lose your job for speaking out, don't sell us short for a few dollars.

I like my profession and I want our field to continue getting better.  Help me do that fellow PRSSA members.
